Exploring Ephemera by shellpresto
Exploring Ephemera
So there are already going to be changes to Ephemera's design (Mike's not keen on the helmet as part of her everyday heroic wear), but I A) wanted to test out my new Winsor & Newton watercolor markers and B) wanted to draw something super-retro sci fi-looking.

Ephemera is Amp's on-again, off-again girlfriend and teammate in the Challenger Foundation. She was mentioned in his interview in Copper Knights and Granite Men, and will appear in its sequel. She converts herself a form of matter that doesn't interact with electromagnetism -- that is, she can turn invisible and phase.

As for the markers... well, you folks tell me! They definitely apply darker than watercolor, but I don't see that as a bad thing since they're markers. They blend pretty nicely, I think. My biggest complaint so far is that Micron pens (which I inked this with) runs on the paper they advertise for them.

But otherwise, I think it turned out pretty good. What say you?

Note: I used watercolor pencils for some details.

Also, Copper Knights and Granite Men is available here:…

Threads (Marker Practice) by shellpresto
Threads (Marker Practice)
I actually didn't like this drawing after I had inked it, but I colored it anyway because I need to get used to Copic markers again since the last East End Irregulars book did a real number on my Prismacolors. (The blue of Torrent's hood was dried like a mummy.)

Post-coloring, I think this looks pretty good, so I'm glad I kept moving forward on it. Perhaps more exciting, however, is that I'll be posting my first ever YouTube video soon, and you'll be able to watch a speeded-up video of me coloring it as I explain what I'm doing.

So anyway, this is Threads. He's one of the East End Irregulars and will make his first appearance in a book this year.

He's got caterpillar powers. Yeah. So, hence the thread-spinning. Get ready to meet him by checking out the existing East End Irregulars books:…

Threads was created by yours truly (Shell Presto), with some help from Michael A. DiBaggio.
A Girl, A Gun, A Little Bit of Magic by shellpresto
A Girl, A Gun, A Little Bit of Magic
Hecate, in all her colored, polished glory!

Hecate is a superhero (more or less) in the Ascension Epoch universe. She was created by authors Michael A. and Shell "Presto" DiBaggio, and drawn by the latter (that is, me!).

Drawn and inked on paper, then colored on PC.

Also, a shoutout to Piotr Siedlecki for posting the photo of roses to, which I edited heavily for use on the background.
The Dismal Tide Cover by shellpresto
The Dismal Tide Cover
While this is far from the best digital painting in the world, I'm still extremely proud of this one, as well as the cover design as a whole.

Mike and I went through many iterations of covers until we finally agreed on this one. I'm planning to eventually put this Corona on a shirt...

You can read the adventures of Torrent, Corona, and The Mysterious X here:…

I did the cover and interior artwork, as well as helping out with the writing.

Albedo's costume is one of the most fun costumes I've ever designed. The book is out, so here she is!

It's a little Dazzler, a little Booster Gold, and totally fun. She's a member of SLAM, Pittsburgh's other superhero team, and you can read about all of them in East End Irregulars: The Dismal Tide, available here:…

I look forward to writing more stories with these folks.

Sumi-e ink (which smudges significantly less) with Prismacolor markers.

I've been updating a little more regularly, but realized I didn't yet state why.

Mike and I published four illustrated books, all sort sci fi and/or fantasy, three with superheroes. It's been a little crazy. We've been attending cons, too. As sellers. It was super-exciting, and now con season is over, so I can play catch-up on everything.

For those curious, you can read more about our stories (along with free chapters and related free short stories) here:

They're all available on…

And know that if you check 'em out, you'd be making my day!
